Dr. Judith A. Gignac-Leininger played a pivotal role in the establishment of the University of Arizona in Sierra Vista, bringing first-of-its-kind access to higher education in Southern Arizona. She was also the first female elected to the Cochise County Board of Supervisors and was a founding member of community organizations such as the Legacy Foundation of Southeastern Arizona and Fort Huachuca 50.

In honor of her legacy and the impact she made, the University South Foundation has spearheaded the renaming and dedication of what is currently known as the Learning Resource Center at the University of Arizona Sierra Vista Campus to the Judy A. Gignac Education Center.

An official ribbon cutting ceremony will be conducted with the Sky Islands Regional Partnership with a reception to follow.
