Scholarship Application Preparation Tips
This information is to prepare applicants with the information they will need to complete their University South Foundation Scholarship Application.
The committee highly recommends applicants review the evaluation rubric found on page 4 of the call for applications prior to starting your application.
Be prepared to upload the following items (PDF Format preferred):
> ALL APPLICANTS must provide unofficial transcripts
> ALL APPLICANTS must provide one item for proof of residency
drivers license
utility bill in your name
State issued identification card
> Education Unidos - IME Becas applicants are required to provide proof
of their Mexican Origin by supplying one of these items:
Mexican Birth Certificate
Parent's Mexican Birth Certificate
Mexican Passport
Consular ID Card
Mexican elector's identification (IFE or INE)
> Military Scholarships (active duty, Veteran, military spouse)
for verification only.
DD214 or
current Military Orders
Note: SSVEC often provides funding for additional scholarships to their members; therefore, if you would like to be considered for an SSVEC scholarship, you will be asked to supply your SSVEC membership number found on your utility statement.
Each applicant can submit one application form and be considered for multiple scholarships. Select all the scholarships for which you are eligible, and be sure to answer all questions pertaining to the scholarships you have selected.
The 2023-2024 Scholarships being offered are:
Merit-based Scholarship (answer questions 1, 2, & 3)
Need-based Scholarship (answer questions 1, 2, 3, & 4)
Rich Besselman Memorial Scholarship (answer questions 1, 2, & 3)
Military - Active Duty Scholarship (answer questions 1, 2, 3, & 4)
Military - Veteran Scholarship (answer questions 1, 2, 3, & 4)
Military - Spouse Scholarship (answer questions 1, 2, 3, & 4)
Education Unidos Scholarship (answer questions 2, 3 & 5)
Cyber Scholarship (answer questions 1, 2, 3 & 6)
Essay Questions are:
Question 1 (100-500 words) - Explain your choice of major: What inspired your interest in your chosen major? What personal characteristics, skills, etc. will enhance your success in this field? How will your study contribute to your immediate or long-range career plans?
Question 2 (100-500 words) - Describe how your leadership and service has made a positive difference in your college, in your community, in your job and/or in your military career. Discuss ways in which you have enriched your community or schools by participation in civic organizations, school clubs, community service projects, or military service (examples of such organizations and clubs would include but are not limited to: Rotary, Kiwanis, AFCEA, Habitat for Humanity, National Honor Society, Key Club, DECA, etc.).
Question 3 (100-300 words) - From a financial standpoint, what impact would this scholarship have on your education and/or in your military career?
Question 4 (100-300 words) - Discuss any special personal or family circumstances affecting your need for financial assistance. Any challenges or barriers you have in order to obtain a college education?
Question 5 (250-600 words) - Imagine yourself 10 years from today. What goals and ambitions do you have for yourself, personally and professionally? How would your goals contribute to the Bi-National (United States and Mexico) relationship?
Question 6 (100-750 words) - How will the completion of the certificate program in Cybersecurity or obtaining a BAS in Cyber Operations increase the cybersecurity posture for yourself, your company, and the nation?
